1. Mayonnaise: Mayonnaise is the devil. Spoiled mayonnaise can make you sick, so why the hell would you eat something that tastes spoiled all the time? I will send back anything that has mayonnaise on it, because you cannot get that horrible taste out of anything once it soaks its terrible self in. I’m nice about it when I send it back though.

2. Any condiment that can come in a squeeze bottle: Mustard tastes like shit. Ketchup tastes like sugary shit. Horse radish and pickle relish taste like rotten shit. I realize mayonnaise should go here, but it’s evil enough that it rated its very own spot on the list.

2a. That includes pump cheese: Cheese is amazing, it’s one of the best foods ever. Pump cheese is an abomination to humanity, and anybody who likes pump cheese is a disgrace.

2b. American cheese: Speaking of cheese-like-substances, American cheese is just a bunch of chemically oily crap. I will eat American cheese only when it’s on a freshly grilled cheese burger. In that situation, and that situation only, it’s passable. I will still wish there was some real cheese around here instead.

3. Boiled pasta: This is a texture thing for me. I won’t say anything bad about boiled pasta, but the texture of it makes me gag, so it’s a no-go for me. That used to be true for all pasta, but in the last few years I’ve grown able to eat baked pasta. Something about the boiled stuff though, I tried to can, but I can’t.

4. Strawberries and raspberries: These look amazing to me. I want to like them, I really do. I try them regularly hoping that I will like them, but so far to no avail. I used to feel the same way about cantaloupe and honeydew melon, but now I like those, so I still have hope that I will one day like strawberries and raspberries.

5. Chinese/Thai/Indian food: It smells like garbage that’s been in the sun for a week and it tastes the same way. If a group of friends/coworkers is going out to eat and one of those places, I take a pass. There is literally nothing I will eat there.

There’s more, but that’s enough shit-stirring for today. Come at me bros!

1. I can tolerate it but mostly agree.

2. Does this include condiments of similar nature that come in a jar, like grey poupon or fancy stone ground mustard, or not shitty horseradish sauce?

2a. It’s a guilty pleasure

2b. I am with you 110% of the way on this.

3. I don’t understand. I’m pretty sure you have to boil pasta before you can bake it. Last time I threw hard pasta in the oven... well, it didn’t work.

4. I hate fruit. I will occasionally eat apples. And I like lemon flavored things. That’s as close as I get to fruit.

5. You are wrong here, good sir. Granted shitty buffet food is shit, is that all you’ve ever experienced of these cuisines?

1.) Replace “Mayo” with Miracle Whip and I’m with you.

2.) Try non-squeezy horseradish sometimes. I think Inglehoffer jarred stuff is decent.

2a.) No argument here. Stuff is probably all oil.

Speaking of cheese-like-substances, American cheese is just a bunch of chemically oily crap.

2b.)Kraft singles and American cheese are not the same thing. Companies that make singles can’t even call it “American Cheese” legally.

3.) I’m the opposite. Don’t really care for baked pasta.

4.) No real feelings here.

5.) No way. I am a Lieutenant Colonel in the mighty army of General Tso. Thai and Indian food is great if the place serving it does a good job. If they do a bad job, it’s fucking BAD.

6.) FUCK HUMMUS . I love Mediterranean food, just not Hummus.

#1 and #4 in particular: more for me. I mean, me complaining about the lack of berries in Texas is even Jalopnik’s Slack topic right now:

Kinja'd!!!

I also don’t mind Asian food, many squeezy condiments—even some pump cheese—and mmm pasta. Pasta needs stuff on it, like cheese, though. Gimme lasagna.

What do you even do for sandwiches? Eat them naked and dry, like basically a step above eating sawdust? I can’t even hardly eat naked fries without mayo or something on them. I will never understand the dry, condiment-less sandwich.

American cheese, though? “Cheese” is used really loosely there. It’s hardly cheese, and an abomination unto the mouth: fact.

It is amazing how quickly berries get moldy. My wife washes them in some sort of vinegar mixture as soon as we get them home to stave that off some.

Sounds like you may have grown up around shitty cooks. I’m guessing all the boiled pasta you’ve eaten has been overcooked, since boiled pasta and baked pasta should have the same texture (al dente), and if you drown anything in mayonnaise it’s going to taste like shit.

I’m with you on ketchup and American cheese, although I would never waste good ground beef by putting American cheese on it.

Sounds like you’re friends eat at garbage restaurants if you think Chinese, Indian and Thai food smell like trash. That or you’re really white. Like translucent.

Sounds like you’ve only had plain yellow mustard, as there’s so many varieties that they aren’t really comparable to each other.

I have absolutely no idea how anyone could not like strawberries or raspberries. Completely unexplainable to me.

My SIS’s family are really plain white people from the Midwest. She had a palate like this until she started eating my family’s cooking. She just needed the culinary part of her brain woken up. I’m part Italian, and was raised to like all food. There’s not really a concept of not liking food in the family culture I was raised in. Of course we all know how to cook awesome food.

If it is anything other than chick peas (garbanzo beans to you heathens) it isn’t Hummus.

1) I used to agree on mayo, but then I made my own from scratch.

2) You must eat some very boring burgers.

2a) It’s not cheese. It’s a salty condiment for crackers. Like caviar. For poor people. Leave pump cheese alone! It’s caviar for poor people!

2b) Blue cheeses taste like your grandmother’s toes. American cheese tastes like gooey salt. To each their own. American cheese makes for a mighty fine grilled cheese.

3) Boiled pasta is bad for you - straight up carb loading, so whatever.

4) There might be no hope for you here. Do you like reductions of these things? Like strawberry sauce?

5) Depending on where you live (especially in most of America), it’s possible that you’ve never had real Asian food. Most Chinese/Thai/Indian is basically the same awful Sodexo garbage. Real Thai (which will burn your god damn face off), Chinese (things like Xiaolongbao), and Indian (which believe it or not is more than just a nameless “curry” sauce) are all fantastic. I’ll also include Korean BBQ, family-style Filipino, Burmese (tea leaf salad will get you wired like an electrical box), and Japanese (I’m not a sushi fan but I’ve had some very interesting flavor combinations) in the list of fantastic Asian food.

Berries breaking down quickly is a natural behavior - they are high in sugar and water - the two things mold needs to grow. Washing them can make it worse (maybe you wife found a good way) because it adds more moisture and can release sugars.

Regarding lasagna, there is such a thing as no-boil noodles. They’re technically boiled already and then dried, I guess...

You layer your lasagna with these sheets of precooked pasta, and they absorb the water from the rest of the mixture.

It sounds like you are a super-taster . Don’t get all weird about that, it’s someone who can taste a panoply of things other people can’t. I happen to have the same affliction, but only about things bitter or sour. Oh, and certain artificial sweeteners. I can taste aspartame, saccharine, and sucralose in just about anything. The only exception is when it’s mixed with a strong mint such as spearmint. Otherwise, don’t try to feed me your artificially sweetened abomination. I will taste it and I will not be happy.

This reminds me of asparagusic acid. That’s the acid unique to asparagus which is responsible for asparagus pee smell. The fun part is only some people have the enzymes to break down the acid which creates the smell and only some people have the receptors to smell it. You can be: a producer/detector; a producer/non-detector; a non-producer/detector; or a non-producer/non-detector.

I wonder what food-borne chemicals you are sensitive to that make you a picky eater.

1) just call it “aioli” instead of mayo. Now you’re a gourmand. get some beligian fries and dunk ‘em

2) If you’re more than 6 years old, yellow mustard and tomato ketchup have no place in your pantry. Try some stone ground mustard or some whole grain mustard.

2a) without aerosol cheese in a can, what would we put on our ritz crackers?!

2b) american cheese is not legally “cheese”, according to the government. However, good deli American is essential for a quality grilled cheese sandwich. Colby, Jack or cheddar are better burger choices.

3) Get yourself some fresh pasta and don’t over cook it. fresh linguine only needs about 1 minute in boiling water. that dry crap in the box will either be crunchy or rubbery. it’s impossible to cook properly.

4) What’s wrong with you?!

5) Ethnic foods, no matter how “authentic” they claim to be, just aren’t the same as they are in their native countries. I can’t say i’ve ever tried indian in India, but I’ve had chinese and japanese in China and Japan, and it’s amazing. Same goes for mexican and italian. There’s a mexican restaurant that opened in the next town from me a couple years ago. The owners lived in mexico for 30 years. i thought the food was great. until i went to mexico. same thing happened when i went to italy. the food was incredible. not anything like you get here. and the best pizza i’ve ever had in my life.

1) People need to stop messing with french fries. They don’t need help.

2) I don’t like “real” mustard either, but it’s certainly less offensive to my taste buds.

2a) I buy sliced muenster and tear it up for my crackers. It’s wonderful.

2b) Deli American cheese is what my mom bought for years, it’s OK. I prefer colby, jack, cheddar, or muenster for both grilled cheese and for burgers.

3) Thanks, but I’m good. I’ve got enough bad habits, I don’t need to add more pasta into the mix.

4) Many things are wrong with me.. I genuinely want to like strawberries and raspberries, and I really do try them regularly.

5) I have no doubt that ethnic food is better in it’s home country. Alas the US State department rejected my application for a passport about 10 years ago, so I’ve never even made it to Canada.

If you can’t make it to Canada, may I suggest Washington (state), Minnesota, western New York, or Maine? These are all excellent substitutes for British Columbia, Alberta, Ontario and New Brunswick, respectively.

1. Mayonnaise>ketchup>mustard

2. Mustard is so overrated. Only good on hotdogs/hamburgers alongside ketchup.

3. If you cook it right, boiled pasta choice be pretty much the same texture as baked. Al dente is the way to go.

4. I cannot imagine not liking strawberries or raspberries. But yeah cantaloupe is shit.

5. I’ve never really had Indian/Thai food, but Chinese is amazing.

For a little shit-stirring myself:

I hate tomatoes. They smell revolting and are only useful when made into other things.

Watermelon consistently disappoints me. You think it’s going to be juicy and amazing but then it’s just like eating slightly sweet damp sand.

I have never eaten olives and never will.

Wow, the smell of tomatoes is revolting? You must have a great sense of smell, because tomatoes don’t have much of a smell.

A good watermelon is amazing, but so often they’re just mealy slop. We had a good one recently.

Olives are nasty.

I could live on Thai and Indian food. I just love the complex flavors.

What about good mustard? Please try the “Jimmy mustard” at Jimmy John’s next time and report back.

I have some friends who are Indian and she loves to host. I’m in heaven when I’m at one of her traditional meals. She also taught my wife to make chicken tikka masala the real (slow) way. It’s amazeballs.
